warning: geek content

Ok, I know that I’m at risk of sounding like a geek here. So if you don’t feel like weeding through a very geeky post, go ahead and skip down to the “geek ends here” part of this post. But for my fellow geeks….

How great was the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1? I can’t believe it’s been on for 10 years. I mean I’ve been watching this show since I was 12! That’s so weird. What was my life like back when I was twelve? Well as far as I can remember, I had just moved into a new house, and started at a new school. I couldn’t drive, I was in 8th grade, and I have the distinct memory of laying down sod in our new “back yard” as the pilot of SG-1 aired on ‘Showtime’. I somehow bartered a deal with my dad that instead of working, I could sit glued to the tv. I think the main reason I got away with this was because secretly, he wanted to watch it too. Who would have guessed that a decade later it would still be on, and would have become the longest running and highest rated science fiction show of ALL frakin’ time. Wait…frakin’…sorry different show. Anyway’s, I certainly didn’t. I just started watching it because it had Richard Dean “McGyver” Anderson on it. Whom, I’ll have to admit, since he left 2 years ago…the show has started to wain. But with talks of him coming back, it seems like the show is getting right back to it’s old self again.

Not that it really changed all that much. It’s just, without old Richard Dean there, the show just felt like…well a different show. Not bad. Just different. And you could see them trying to find their legs again. Which for a show that was so solid, it was frustrating to see.

But despite all of that, the 200th was great. And it really restored my faith that maybe it’s not winding down. Maybe it’s getting it’s second wind? I don’t know. I guess we just have to keep our fingers crossed. Especially with Dean ‘Day After Tomorrow’ Devlin wanting to turn the Stargate movie into a trilogy, and act like SG-1 never existed. That to me is just a HUGE slap in the face to the entire community who loves this show. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I loved the movie when it came out…12 years ago. But this just seems like they want to cash in. I hope they realize that the time for the holy trilogy has passed.

But still, no matter what happens with the movie franchise, the show is still great…and we finally got to see the Furlings!
