life is what happens
When you’re busy making other plans. That’s one of my favorite Lennon songs, and that seems to be the theme at the moment. That, and Prince is stalking me. But more on that later. Anyway, if you had asked me where I would be when the Colt’s won the Super Bowl, I would definitely not have said “In a hotel room in French Quebec.” But there I was. And here I am writing about it. And how freakin’ crazy was that?! Seriously. After the the punt return for a touchdown to start the game, I thought it was all over. It was just a horrible way to start the game. But…some how…they turned it around. And woop’d some Bear ass. Colbert would be proud.
Now onto Prince. As much as I don’t like him, and as much of a nut bar as he is, it was actually a pretty good half time show. But now everywhere I go all I see and hear is freakin’ Prince! For example, he was on CBC as I was leaving the hotel this morning. His “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today…” song was on the speakers at this Bistro we went to today. And then on my cab ride home, what was on the weird French cabby’s radio? Purple goddamn rain. Now my only explanation for this is that my hotel room must be bugged and he heard me say, “God I hate Prince.” Now he has a vendetta against me and is slowly trying to drive me insane. Sure, you might say that’s far fetched. But did you know that every room in Paisley Park is wired for sound so he can record in any and every room? Looking a little more possible now huh? And in the words of Jess, “Prince don’t fuck around.”
Can you tell I’m bored up here?
Any who, it’s a weird feeling not being able to talk to people up here. And just like High School, lunch time is the worst. It wasn’t so bad when my friend Nadav was still here because he spoke English, and I had someone to talk to. But now, all the friends I have up here are French. And they don’t really like to speak English when they don’t have to. So I sit there, quietly, while they talk and I stare at things. Cups, walls, the floor…you name it. And then once in a while I get a “did you enjoy your food?” And I get to see if my vocal cords have gone into atrophy or if I can still mutter out a “Yep, bien.” At least they’re nice enough to invite me out to lunch everyday, but man does it make me feel like an outsider.
I’ve been watching a lot of “Lost in Translation” by the way. Seems to fit.
Well, that’s about all that’s new on my end. Life just seems really crazy now a days. Things that I never thought would happen, have happened. And it makes me wonder what’s next? Where am I going to be next month? Where am I going to be getting my next job? None of which I know, but I do know that I can’t wait to get back to Savannah and get back to Jess. Quebec is nice and all, but hotel rooms start to loose their appeal once you have to start doing your laundry in the tub because you’ve run out of clean clothes. Which I have. It just makes you kind of feel like a Hobo.
11 more days and counting. I can’t wait.
Alright, well I’ll post more soon because like I said…I’m bored. But I hope everyone is happy and doing well…and not freezing their asses off like I am. There so much snow up here, and it was -24 today…now that’s just not right. I think I’m going to write the Canadian Parliament to officially suggest that they rename Quebec…to Hoth.
