salut

That’s my new french word. It means hello! and bye!. I don’t think an actual salute is necassary, but I do it anyways. It’s just fun :) . I spent the morning color correcting two plates so that they’re identical. And now I’m waiting for my supervisor to come by and give me the thumbs up to dump it on the renderfarm. It’s pretty tedious, making one image look exactly like the other. But at least I’m not dustbusting. Doing identical shots is the one thing that I didn’t realize about working on a 3D movie. You basically have to do the same shot twice. It’s a weird way to work, but I think I’m getting a hang of it. And it’s kind of fun.

It looks like we’re going to be working this weekend and the odd thing is that I’m happy about it! I guess I’m just used to be at work and counting the seconds until I can get home, but here…well I don’t really have a home. I have a hotel room where most every channel on TV is in French. And counting the weeks until I go back to SAV is just a little depressing. So I like being at the office. Sure, I don’t really understand anyone. But at least I have something to do, and for some reason I got lucky enough to do something that I actually like. I mean, this kind of stuff is what I do for fun at home! And here, I’m getting paid VERY well to do that, instead of just draining my bank account. And if I do say so myself, I think I’m doing a pretty good job. I mean, I usually don’t like to say “Good job Doug!”. But I learned an entirely new pipeline, in a completely different language, and I’m delivering shots on time. So I’m happy. I’m not happy that I’m away from home, but I’m happy that I’m good at what I love to do. It’s a good feeling.

Speaking of doing something you’re good at. Jess got a job as a cake decorator right down the street from out apartment! I’m so proud of her. Because, no matter how good she is at matte painting (which she is), I know she loves cooking so much more. And plus, now we have another income while we wait to find out where we’re moving. So everyone say it with me…”Congrats Jess!!!”. She’s awesome, and I love her so much.

Oh and by the way, one of the French guys here actually does listen to accordion music. Seriously. And he totally laughs like “whuh whuh whuh”. It makes me laugh. French Canada is just weird, but really fun too because it’s so different than what I’m used to. Seriously, you don’t know how weird it’s going to be to come back in a few weeks and be able to easily talk with people.

Ok, well I better go grab my supervisor because I think he forgot about me. But I’ll post more soon, because…well…I’m bored. ha. Talk to you all soon and I hope you’re doing well!

Salut! (seriously, salute while you say that. it’s fun!)
