Reel FX Entertainment animates another feature-length CG installment of the Open Season franchise.
Boog, Elliot and the rest of the Open Season cast join newcomers Ursa, Doug and Alistair in Open Season 3. The film is Reel FX’s second feature-length CG collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation.
Directed by Cody Cameron, OS3 required more complex animation with a storyline that required more characters, more water elements, and festive new environments including a circus Big-Top. Building upon its previous work on Open Season 2, the team tweaked original characters by incorporating advancements in fur systems, as well as developing and defining the new characters and their personalities. They crafted scenes within the circus tent with complex light schemes to showcase many of the dramatic moments in the film. Reel FX also raised the bar with more digital effects from Alistair’s spit to cannonball blasts to sets of juggling fire balls.
After the Looney Tunes shorts wrapped up, my wife and I jumped onto the tail end of the latest installment of the Open Season franchise to help finish everything up.
We had been watching the “OS3” team from the sidelines during Looney in utter awe at how smoothly their pipeline was setup. It was a well oiled machine, and the beautiful final images they produced are proof of that. Especially in terms of the quality and sheer speed at their turn around!
It was an absolute pleasure working with them on such a great project! They taught us a lot.
Can’t wait till the next!
