‘Dinosaurs 3D: Giants of Patagonia’ was my first freelance feature film gig right after graduation from SCAD. And man, talk about starting off with a bang! Not only was the film in IMAX, it was also debuting on the scene just before stereoscopic films really started to take off. As such being the case, a lot of new ground was being discovered by the team. And they needed some extra help towards the tail end of the show to make their deadline. That’s when I got the call from Studio Virtuel Concept, a studio in the heart of snowy Quebec.
I spent the next month rotoing, compositing, and even doing some particle effects for the film. Learning and working along side some of the most talented artists I’ve worked with to date. And I have to say, I really count my self lucky be a part of this film. Because besides getting the chance to cut my teeth on a cutting edge picture, I also got to spend time in the beautiful city of Quebec.
The film then went on to be nominated for a 6th Annual VES Award for ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project’, and receive critical and box office success. Can’t do much better than that!
