khan!!!
Â
Sorry, just had to do it. It’ll make sense in just a moment. I came across a Variety article this morning about India’s next bid to solidify itself as a VFX powerhouse. The man behind it all is named, Shah Rukh Khan.
Get it? The whole ‘khan!!!’ title to this post. You know, from ‘Star Trek’…funny right? Oh never mind.
Anyways it’s his aim to produce, “the country’s most expensive ever movie in a bid to show the world the strength of the subcontinent’s special effects and animation industries.” Companies like Rhythm and Hues (Mumbai) and LucasFilm (Singapore) have already made the leap into that neck of the world. While most other VFX companies in the states seem to opt for Canada. But I’m starting to see the outsourcing trend creeping into our little industry. Which is scary and exciting all at the same time. I don’t know about you though, but I definitely don’t want to have to live in India one day to make a living. No thank you.
So check out the article below, it’s pretty interesting. Especially is you’re not familiar with the boom that’s been happening in the recent years.

The untitled pic is to be made by Red Chillies on a budget of $25 million and will be helmed by Anubhav Sinha (“Cash”) later this year. “We are dedicating the next eight or nine months to taking the best technicians from around the world and asking them to help us make the best VFX film India has ever made,” Khan told Variety. “It will madcap, over the top. I want it to be as beautiful as ‘Spider-Man’ in terms of effects.”
