I came across this great video detailing how the 3D Death Star animation for ‘Star Wars – A New Hope’ was made over at VFXBlog.com today. The whole process is really fascinating and nail bitingly slow. And really reminds you of whose shoulder’s we’re standing on and how good we have it now a days.
Check it out…
The artist who made this animation is a man by the name of Larry Cuba.

And as his site says, “Larry Cuba is widely recognized as a pioneer in the use of computers in animation art.”
Pretty cool stuff huh?
UPDATE:
I found 2 new videos of Larry Cuba’s work through Motionpgrapher.com. Check them out below…
“Calculated Movements”
“Arabesque”
