“Battlestar Galactica” 1/4105

My favorite part of building this model by far was how, unlike Federation ships, the dirtier the Galatica looks…the better! Giving me the chance to do some fun battle damage that matches the on-screen CG model, with a few extra dings and divots for the hell of it.

I also got to use fiber optics for the first time, which was a learning experience. Both in how not really complicated it is, and also…how hard it is to get them to stay in place! Nothing a few globs of super glue didn’t fix in the end, but a lot of good fiber optic strands were lost in the process of learning that, haha.

For the hanger decks I used LED tape, which was a HUGE time saver. I freaking love this stuff and will be using it as much as possible in the future. Makes adding a lot of lights to a model extremely quick and easy since you don’t have to deal with resistors given that they’re built in to the tape.

Overall it was a pretty quick model to build, taking only a couple of weeks. And I’m extremely happy with how it came out. It’s a great kit though it took a little tweaking to  accurate this kit to the on-screen version. But once those modifications were made and the photoetch was added, the old girl just came alive.

Can’t wait to add the Pegasus to the fleet down the road!
