speedshape halloween 2009

If follow me on Twitter (@ZombieDUG), then you’ve already seen a few pictures from the Speedshape Halloween party. But if not, I’ll be posting a bunch more on the blog very soon! Until then though here’s one to wet your whistle. I went as a Zombie Pop-tart and Jess was as Captain Crunch. And for the second year in a row we got second place!

2011 ford super duty launch

Want to see what we’ve been busy with here at Speedshape over the past month? Well then check out the newly launched “2011 Ford Super Duty” site, and listen to the sweet sweet Mike Rowe narration…

I’ll do a proper post on the who and how later when we get back from Italy (and when I know it’s ok to actually do so, ha). But until then, I just wanted all of you to check out this really cool site now because I personally think it marks some of the best work we’ve done here at Speedshape to date. Everyone really brought their “A” game to this spot and I’m very proud to have worked on it. All the artists here just seem to get better and better with each new job we get under our collective belts.

We even got to use some new techniques in Nuke using the 3D system and 2D particle cards, which was something I’ve been itching to test out on a job for a while now. But like I said before…more on that later.

You can see my finger prints all over all the snow and engine shots. While Jess comp’ed all the Highway, Desert, and Forest shots.

So, what do ya think guys? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy link dump day! The day that comes every once in a while where I have some cool stuff to blog about but I’m just too damn lazy to write a full post about each one!

Excited? Well here we go!

The web campaign for the 2009 Ford F150 that Speedshape just finished up a couple months ago, and that Jess and I composited in Nuke, went live over the weekend. The work we did is located at the end of each section. Just click on the links after each video starring Discovery’s Mike Rowe.

Next up is a making of video done by Speedshape’s own Rob Nederhorst. He talks about the work our LA studio did on the national Ford Flex commercial campaign.

VFX house Speedshape, agency Team Detroit and director Mark of Anonymous Content came together to create a virtual city in the new campaign for Ford’s new Flex SUV. Watch the “Making of” video to see how Speedshape approached and executed these two commercials.

Alright, Happy Monday everyone!

we’re not afraid of ghosts!

UPDATE:

I finally got some pictures up of the 2008 Speedshape Halloween party! Check ‘um out!

Well it’s Sunday, I’ve finally recovered from Halloween, and the wait is over.

Jess and I were freakin’ Ghostbusters for Halloween!

It was a blast and I’m gonna have some more pictures of the party itself on Monday. But until then, check out the step by step instructable I made detailing all the work that went into our Costumes over the past month, and a youtube video I made demo’ing the pack. I hope you enjoy it!

What the hell am I going to do with all this free time now?

LINK: Instructables – Ghostbusters Proton Pack

This is a semi step-by-step guide of how my girlfriend Jess and I built our Ghostbusters proton packs for Halloween 2008! We ended up spending just under a month and just over $200 on each pack. Not including random tools here and there that we needed.

No expensive lightboards or sound packs here. This is 100% homemade and on the cheap.

candy clues

Things have been pretty crazy lately, and my time has been split between building the super secret Halloween costumes and working on some pretty cool projects. But in just 3 more days it’s my favorite holiday, and the recent radio silence will prove it’s worth.

So stay tuned…because something pretty damn strange is coming to your neighborhood.

(*hint *hint)

But in the mean time to keep you all busy, some of the very talented artists over in our Speedshape Interactive Department put together a really fun game for Halloween this year called, “Candy Clues“.

And since for some strange reason it’s not sociably acceptable for a 24 year old to go trick or treating no matter how bad-ass his costume is…this is the closest thing to candy I’m gonna get. Without going to Target and buying all the jumbo Hershey bars I can find that is.

Man, I really want some candy now.

Follow the link below to your doooooom!

It’s almost Halloween and all of the Candy in Ole Birmingham is gone, and local Candy maker Granny can’t
help because her prized Candy Cows are missing. It’s up to you to save Halloween.

Find Granny’s Candy Cows and figure out who is behind this mysterious mystery. Start by following the Candy Clues.

Jump, Climb, Swing and Bounce your way through 3 creepy and challenging levels to compete for the high score and unlock secret characters.

a particle halloween

Only 29 more days till Halloween! And you know what that means…costume building time!

If you remember from last year, I spent way too much time…and WAY too much money, on my Spider-man costume.

This year Jess is joining me, so the question is: “What are we going to be this time around?”

Well head on over to Fermi Lab for a hint…

Confused? Well if so it’ll all make sense soon enough.

And this year as a little bonus I’m documenting the whole building process from start to finish, which I’ll post on All HallowsEve!

Talk to ya’ll soon!

mustang stories debut

One of the really cool, and really secret, projects I’ve been working on lately debuts tonight during “Knight Rider“!

I comp’d and did the look development on the Mustang Productions intro that’s going in front of what they’re calling “Mustang Stories“. Which is a really cool contest for independent film makers from all over the world. Who were tasked to film a 30sec to 3 minute short about a Ford Mustang.

They got some really great submissions and they’re going to be showing a short trailer for the featured video each week during one of the commercial breaks.

And here’s this week’s featured video!

On the heels of NBC’s hit movie Knight Rider, the iconic 1980s television classic comes roaring back to life as a reinvented, updated and super-charged action series showcasing the new KITT, played by a 2009 Ford Mustang. Absolutely the coolest car ever created, KITT is equipped with an “AI” (artificial intelligence) that is capable of hacking almost any system. Its weapons systems match that of a jet fighter, and its body is capable of actually transforming into other vehicles and using sophisticated holographic imagery to elude villains.

Pretty cool.

So…take some time tonight and check it out in all it’s HD glory!

Knight Rider premieres tonight at 8/7c on NBC as part of the NBC Premiere Week.

quaker state

The Speedshape Quarterlies were a lot of fun the other night. And once again we were all amazed at how quickly the bar tab runs out! Speedshape rented out this really cool old movie theater called ‘The Magic Bag’ over in Ferndale. And we got to see all of the work that we’ve done over the past few months. It was pretty incredible to see just how much work has been pumped out in so little time. And just how good all of it was as well!

One of the spots that stole the show was Speedshape LA’s new Quaker State ad. You might have already seen it already, but just in case you haven’t I posted the video below. It looks like all of the months of hard work over on the left coast really paid off big time!

Alright that’s it for today. Only one more day until Jess and I go on vacation! And I can’t wait.

2 Nights in Miami, then 5 nights out at sea. And it’s our first real vacation together! It’s going to be awesome. I love her.

Ok…off to work. Talk to you all soon!

duke’s beans

Today at 12pm the site we did for Bush’s Baked Beans went live! It’s called ‘Duke’s Doghouse’ and this is the first site created completely internally between the CG and newly created Interactive departments.

I comp’d the opening shot of Duke, did a TON of roto and paint work on Duke for inside of his pad (thanks combustion), and all the pop-ups of Jay in the vault and Duke in the kitchen. Now it ain’t “Transformers”, but I’m still really proud of the all the work we did on this site! But all the little fixes that I’m really proud of you won’t ever see, because everyone did such a good job of making this site seamless. That’s the nature of this type of work though!

So go check it out and play around. If you look really hard you might find some of the easter eggs we worked in here and there.

And congratulations to the Speedshape CG and Interactive teams! Expect more of this type of work in the very near future…hint hint…

p.s. No that’s not Norm McDonald as the voice of Duke…but damn do we still like the think it is!
